One of the best things about franchising with Monster Junk is getting a 10 year head-start on your competition. All you have to do is avoid all the mistakes I made over the 18 or so years I've been learning this business. So let me share a little about myself...


HI, I'M DAN
I'm the founder of Monster Junk. To explain how the business developed to what you see today, I need to go right back to the beginning - to before the Monster was born...
My first career was with a Spanish building company in the rural Spanish province of Almeria. In 2008 as the financial crisis hit the Spanish property market (and the whole world) we decided to return to the UK with our young family. After a year of working for other the people I set up a small removals business with just one van. I was able to help many more expats return to the UK during the crisis as a 'man & van' Spain-UK-Spain moving service. I acquired the nickname Dan The Van and things took off so well I decided to take on staff, an extra van and eventually even a storage unit.
Business was booming. I soon built up a thriving domestic home removal and courier transport service locally in Cheshire. But I was so busy working all the hours the customers demanded I struggled to keep up. I had a terrible life/work balance and never saw my family or had a day off.
I had to make a change...

THE MONSTER WAS BORN
By 2014 it became clear that house clearance and junk disposal services were in great demand, as well as being easier and more profitable than removals!
So that's what I focused on, but lack of experience meant I might make big money on a few jobs but lose money on others. I knew I had to learn all I could about the industry from people in the know and with help from a few retiring house clearance guys, auctioneers (valuers) and waste disposal experts and I slowly moved the business in that direction. This new business model proved to be exceptionally profitable and I enjoyed years of success and a much better work/life balance.
Family has always been the driving force for everything I do. Itβs always been essential that I had the time, that rare resource, to have quality moments and experiences with my wife and children.
This is what motivated me to take the leap in to self-employment in the first place - to set my own hours and decide how much I want to earn without sacrificing family time. Now I'd finally found a business model that earned a great income and afforded me time off when I wanted.
But as the business grew and developed, it made sense to move away from the Dan The Van name, as it had become much more than a standard man & van outfit. It became important to use a name, and branding, that more clearly explained the nature of the service on offer - and so Monster Junk was born.


WHY DID WE FRANCHISE?
During the Covid 19 pandemic of 2020/21 Monster Junk was incredibly busy with house clearances and junk removal. As an essential service, we carried on through lock-downs and restrictions to help people when they needed it most. It was impossible to service the increased demand, and it quickly became necessary to expand into new bigger premises, an office and new vehicles just to keep up.
As the service became widely known and our reputation spread, we struggled to keep up with demand in towns and cities over an hour from the depot. It was time to replicate the model and open up new branches in surrounding areas.
I wanted to keep the family values that have always been central to Monster Junk, and with this in mind I consulted friends, family and even those customers who had seen the business grow so quickly. One of my regular customers suggested franchising as a way to keep standards high and family values at heart. He pointed out that franchised business owners would always be better placed to offer that consistent high quality and personal service that Monster Junk customers had grown to expect.
Now I could show others how they could make a substantial income driving a van and working from home. In an economy where it isn't easy to find well paid work that's compatible with family life, I realised that Monster Junk could offer more families the opportunity to do a good thing for their communities and the franchisees would be well rewarded. A team was assembled, including customer service and sales support. Ash Thompson joined us as franchise director and together we set out to recruit business partners across the country.
The hard work had already been done for the new franchisees joining Monster Junk. Now the systems and head office support are in place new branches simply had to go out and get the business that was there waiting for them. Now the extremely successful Monster Junk systems could be enjoyed by not just the customers but also by franchisees joining as new business partners.
There have been many problems to solve to get to this point, but after over 16 years of experience, and 3 years of franchising, the all bumps have been levelled out and we were ready to roll out a national brand...
NOW...
We now have two branches in Greater London, two in the northwest of England and one in North Wales and more coming online shortly. This has been achieved by persistent attention from our amazing clearance teams, Monster Junk's unparalleled app software, the head office call centre team, bespoke management systems and advertising launch strategies. All of which allow our franchisees to run their own junk clearance businesses with the piece of mind of Monster Junk community support. All of these assets (and more) are made available to new franchisees & partners from day one.
As a Monster Junk partner or franchisee you will get a mentor and support team to help you build your business. You will have a support team in place who can answer customer enquires and provide admin back-up while you are enjoying the freedom of the open road.
In 2025 we are also seeking master franchise partners for Scotland, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Australia and New Zealand.
From time to time, we also have franchise territory resales following franchisee retirement or change of direction.
